An elderly Nigerian man, Fatai Odunsi, has come forward in a viral video, claiming to be the father of popular musician Asake and pleading with Nigerians for financial assistance due to serious health challenges.
The video, which started trending on Friday, shows Odunsi seated alongside another man identified as Sonibare, who introduced himself as his brother. Odunsi stated that he has been suffering from a stroke since March 29, 2022, and has been unable to reach his alleged son, Asake.
“Asake Has Ignored My Calls” – Odunsi
In the emotional video, Odunsi expressed his frustration over his inability to communicate with the fast-rising music star.
Odunsi said, “I am the father of Asake, the singer. The last time I saw him was when I fell ill on March 29, 2022. Since then, he has not picked up my calls. Anytime I call him, he ignores me. I am now tired.”
Odunsi appeared visibly weak as he spoke, further emphasizing his health struggles.
Relative Calls for Public Support
Speaking in the same video, Sonibare confirmed Odunsi’s claims and appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance. He explained that he had done everything possible to support Odunsi but had run out of resources.
“As I said earlier, his name is Fatai Odunsi. He is the one who gave birth to Asake, whom everyone knows as Ololade Mr Money. We need the help of Nigerians because he is now broke,” Sonibare said.
He continued, “I have done the best I could as a person. That is why I am coming to you, Nigerians, to come to our aid. Whatever amount you can give, even if it is N1, please help him out. I do not want him to die young. We all will not die young too.”

Public Appeal for Help
Sonibare stated that Odunsi had given him permission to share his story on social media in hopes of attracting financial help.
He explained, “I am not just doing this on my own. I sought permission from him before coming out publicly. He has been looking for me for a while to help him share his story online.”
Asake Yet to Respond
Despite the strong claims made by Odunsi, there has been no official response from Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade. The validity of Odunsi’s claims has also not been confirmed, and the singer has not publicly addressed the allegations.
The video has attracted widespread reactions on social media. While some sympathize with Odunsi and believe he deserves help, others remain skeptical about his claims. Some have also questioned why he chose to go public instead of handling the matter privately with Asake.
