A respected Ijaw traditional institution, the Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), has warned that it will deliver a surprising response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.
The group issued this warning following a statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who claimed that “heaven will not fall” if Fubara is removed from office.
“Heaven Won’t Fall, But We Will Respond”
SEA Chairman Werinipre Noel Digifa agreed with Wike’s statement but insisted that the Ijaw people would not remain silent if Fubara is impeached.
“Heaven will not fall if Fubara is impeached. We won’t resort to violence either. But at the appropriate time, we will let President Tinubu know what one of his ‘best eleven’ has done to the Ijaw people,” Digifa stated.
He accused President Tinubu of enabling Wike’s “recklessness and arrogance,” claiming that the FCT Minister is unfairly using his influence to control Rivers politics.
“Tinubu Should Be Held Responsible”
Digifa placed the blame on President Tinubu, accusing him of failing to check Wike’s growing power.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s actions. He has turned the judiciary into his personal estate, manipulating it to suit his desires,” he alleged.
He further claimed that Wike had influenced a recent Supreme Court judgment to favor his political interests.
“Wike preempted the Supreme Court judgment, and it went exactly as he wanted,” Digifa added.
Despite their frustrations, Digifa assured that the Ijaw people would not turn to violence.
“If they impeach Fubara, we will take everything in good faith. Ijaw people don’t believe in violence. But we are watching closely as Wike continues to harass and intimidate the governor of Rivers State,” he warned.

Egbesu Assembly: “We Are Not Cowards”
Digifa condemned what he called Wike’s “crass arrogance” and repeated verbal attacks on the Ijaw people. He stressed that the Ijaw nation is not afraid to stand up for its rights.
“In a community, reasonable people don’t jump on every controversy. There is a saying that two mad people never behave madly at the same time,” he said.
“Some of those who have the capacity to talk will avoid responding like Wike for now. But we are not sleeping, and we are not cowards.”
“Jonathan and His Wife to Blame for Wike’s Rise”
The SEA Chairman also blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, for supporting Wike’s political rise.
“This situation was avoidable. But for Jonathan and his wife, who imposed this thoughtless talkative on us, Rivers State wouldn’t be suffering this pain today,” he declared.
Political Tensions Rise in Rivers State
With political divisions deepening in Rivers State, the Supreme Egbesu Assembly’s warning highlights growing dissatisfaction among the Ijaw people.
Observers say that if the crisis escalates, it could create further instability in the state’s leadership and affect the balance of power within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
For now, all eyes remain on Rivers State as the political battle between Wike and his opponents continues to unfold.
