The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians against making changes to their National Identification Number (NIN) data on unauthorised websites, stressing that such actions could expose them to identity theft and fraud.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 10, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, emphasised that modifications to NIN records should only be done through the commission’s official self-service portal.
The NIMC urged the public to follow due process when updating their details, warning that fraudulent platforms may attempt to collect sensitive personal data for illegal purposes.
Adegoke reassured Nigerians that the commission remains committed to safeguarding their data and ensuring that all modifications are carried out securely. He advised anyone needing changes to their NIN details to visit the official NIMC website or designated enrollment centres across the country.
