A 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, collapsed while observing early morning prayers at a mosque in Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He was rushed to a hospital in Kuje, where he was later pronounced dead.
The incident occurred on Thursday during Subhi (early morning) prayers. According to Musa Dantani, a resident of Gudaba, Byezhe had eaten Sahur (the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan fasting), performed ablution, and joined other worshippers for prayers when he suddenly slumped.
Dantani said, “Prayers were ongoing when he suddenly collapsed. Some Muslims inside the mosque quickly held him and rushed him to the hospital. He was still breathing on the way, but unfortunately, he passed away upon arrival.”

A doctor at the hospital confirmed Byezhe’s death and attributed it to high blood pressure. Reports suggest that his blood pressure had spiked during the prayers, which may have led to his sudden collapse.
One of Byezhe’s sons was present in the mosque when the incident occurred. He accompanied his father to the hospital and witnessed the moment doctors confirmed his passing.
Following Islamic tradition, Byezhe’s remains were buried at 10:12 a.m. on Thursday. His death has left the Gudaba community in shock, with residents mourning the sudden loss of a fellow worshipper.
High blood pressure remains a silent killer, and medical experts warn that stress, diet, and lifestyle choices can contribute to sudden health complications.
