The Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria has distanced itself from a viral video showing a bishop performing a controversial “tongue-to-tongue” anointing ceremony. The church strongly condemned the act, calling it “horrific” and unacceptable before both God and man.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the church made it clear that the individuals involved in the video are not affiliated with the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria and do not represent its doctrines or values.
“We would ordinarily ignore such incidents, but we must set the record straight,” the church stated.
Church Identifies Bishop in Video
After conducting an internal investigation, the church identified the main figure in the video as Alfred Oluwasegun Okikiola Ogunnusi, who refers to himself as “His Eminence Baba Aladura LAHOJAH.” The church clarified that he is not a recognized member of the C&S denomination.
The ceremony reportedly took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, while the man being anointed, Benjamin (also called Ajigbo), operates a makeshift ‘church’ in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The church expressed deep concern that its revered founder, *St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, was mentioned in the video. It also condemned the unauthorised use of its religious symbols.
“These impostors are attempting to exploit the name of St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase for personal gain, but invoking his name does not grant legitimacy or membership in our church,” the statement declared.

Church Rejects Bishop’s Justification
The church also criticized Ogunnusi’s attempt to justify the practice using Genesis 48:10, saying his interpretation was misleading and entirely false.
“We strongly abhor idolatrous practices and reject their satanic and unholy acts in their entirety,” the church emphasized.
The statement further clarified that the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria anoints members only with olive oil and conducts baptisms through immersion in water—never through any other ritual.
Additionally, the church disowned another individual in the video seen wearing a robe with the official C&S logo, stressing that he was neither a recognized member nor authorized to wear the emblem.
Church Urges Public to Ignore Video
The church urged the public to disregard the video and warned against assuming that everyone in a white garment is a member of the Cherubim & Seraphim Church.
“Not everyone who wears a white garment belongs to us. We must be cautious not to link falsehood with our sacred doctrines,” the statement read.
Calling for widespread condemnation of the incident, the church reassured its members and the public that it remains committed to upholding its spiritual traditions and maintaining the integrity of its teachings.
