Bauchi police have arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death during an argument over Ramadan food.
The tragic incident happened late at night on March 1, 2025, near Government Girls College, Fadamam, Mada Area, Bauchi. According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the dispute started over how food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking the Ramadan fast were handled.
A Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly
Police spokesperson CSP Ahmed Wakil confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday. He said, “This unfortunate event arose from a misunderstanding between Alhaji Nuru Isah, a businessman at the Central Market, Bauchi, and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, over the handling of food ingredients and fruits for breaking the fast. The dispute escalated into violence, and the husband used a cane to strike his wife.”
After the beating, Wasila collapsed. Family members rushed her to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Police Promise Justice
Following the incident, police arrested Isah and launched an investigation. Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, assured the public that justice would be served.
He said, “This is a tragic and senseless loss of life. We are committed to ensuring that the case is properly investigated, and justice is done.”
The police have urged the public to remain calm as they complete their investigations. Meanwhile, Isah remains in detention, awaiting further legal proceedings.
