Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has demanded that her upcoming probe proceedings at the Senate be aired live to ensure transparency. She insists that Nigerians have the right to witness the process and hold their leaders accountable.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was referred to the Senate’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee following a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the chamber. While she has remained silent on the matter until now, she has made it clear that she will not allow the investigation to be conducted behind closed doors.

A Call for Transparency
In a statement posted on her Facebook page on Thursday, the senator urged Nigerians to pay close attention to the proceedings, emphasizing that she would fight for full transparency.
“This petition came to my notice a few hours ago,” she wrote. “In as much as I have refrained from publicly speaking on the matter and a lot of occurrences at the Senate under Senate President Akpabio, it’s about time I break my silence.”
She also challenged Arise News to set a date for an interview, promising to appear in person and answer any questions. “Spare no questions,” she declared.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that the probe must be broadcast live for Nigerians to see what happens behind the scenes in the Senate. “And to Nigerians, please be sure to join the probe, which I shall insist would be covered live,” she stated.
A Crucial Moment for Leadership Standards
The senator believes that the upcoming days and weeks will be critical for Nigeria’s leadership and governance. “The next few days and weeks shall be interesting but will shape the standard and quality of Nigeria’s leadership,” she said.
Her demand for a live broadcast has sparked discussions about transparency in the Senate, with many Nigerians closely watching to see how the leadership will respond. While it remains unclear whether the Senate will agree to her request, her insistence on openness has put additional pressure on the legislative body to ensure fairness in the proceedings.
As the situation unfolds, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s call for transparency could set a precedent for how internal investigations are handled in Nigeria’s legislative system.
