Former President Muhammadu Buhari has relocated to his residence in Kaduna after spending nearly two years in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
A former aide to Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed this development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night.
Buhari did not make the journey alone. He was accompanied by several high-profile political figures, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. Their presence signaled the importance of the move, though no official statement has been given on why Buhari decided to relocate at this time.
Since leaving office in May 2023, Buhari has maintained a low profile in Daura, staying away from active political discussions and focusing on personal matters.
“After completing his tenure, he opted for a quiet life in his hometown and largely stayed out of active political discussions, focusing on private engagements,” Ahmad wrote.

This move to Kaduna suggests a shift in the former president’s post-office plans, though it remains unclear whether he intends to engage in any public or political activities in the near future.
Buhari’s decision to relocate to Kaduna has sparked speculation. Kaduna, often considered the political hub of Northern Nigeria, has strong historical and political significance. As a former military leader and two-term civilian president, Buhari’s presence in the city could influence political movements in the region.
Some political analysts believe that Kaduna offers better security and infrastructure compared to Daura, which might have influenced Buhari’s decision. Others see it as a strategic move to be closer to key political figures ahead of future political developments in the country.
While Buhari has not made any public statements about his future plans, his relocation could mark the beginning of a new phase in his post-presidency life. For now, Nigerians will be watching closely to see whether he continues his quiet retirement or gradually re-engages with national affairs from his new base in Kaduna.
