A Lagos Magistrate Court has freed popular musician Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and two others from any involvement in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.
The court, sitting in Sabo, Yaba, on Tuesday, ruled that Naira Marley, whose real name is Abdulazeez Fashola, had no case to answer regarding the controversial death of the late singer. The decision was based on legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who read out the DPP’s findings, confirmed that there was no evidence linking Naira Marley, music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (PrimeBoy), and MohBad’s former manager Opere Babatunde to the singer’s death.
The court’s ruling marks the end of weeks of speculation about their involvement in the tragic incident that shook Nigeria’s music industry.
While clearing the four men, the DPP found the auxiliary nurse who treated MohBad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of the singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, liable for reckless and negligent acts. They will now face trial at the magistrate court.

The duo is being charged under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, which addresses acts of negligence leading to harm or death.
MohBad, a rising star in Nigeria’s music scene, died on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances. His death sparked widespread outrage, with fans demanding justice and accusing several individuals, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, of being involved.
However, the latest court decision clears them of any wrongdoing, shifting the focus to the medical negligence allegedly linked to his treatment.
The ruling has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some supporters of Naira Marley and Sam Larry celebrated their release, others continued to demand a deeper investigation into MohBad’s death.
Many fans are also watching closely as the case against the nurse and MohBad’s friend progresses in court.
