Security operatives in Nigeria have killed five suspected fighters of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and four kidnappers in separate operations across Imo and Kebbi states. The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, highlighting the success of the recent anti-crime efforts.
Security Raid on ESN Camps in Imo
According to police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, security forces raided a criminal camp on 8 February, killing two suspected ESN kingpins in Imo State. The operation, carried out by police operatives and other security agencies, took place between Ezioha in Mbaitolu Local Government Area and Umuele, Umuaka, in Njaba Local Government Area.
“The operatives stormed the camp, engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, and successfully neutralized two of their leaders,” Adejobi stated.
During the raid, the security forces destroyed multiple criminal camps and seized a large cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition.
A day after the first operation, security forces launched a follow-up raid on 9 February in Nkwukwo Forest, which borders Ubachima in Awomama, Oru West Local Government Area.
“When the operatives arrived, the suspected terrorists opened fire, leading to an intense exchange. Three more ESN leaders were neutralized,” Adejobi revealed.
The police recovered two AK-47 rifles loaded with 36 rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun, a cutlass, four motorcycles, and criminal charms from the suspects.

Kidnappers Killed in Kebbi State
In a separate operation in Kebbi State, security forces eliminated four suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim unharmed.
Adejobi explained that on Friday, armed men stormed Gobiraje village in Suru Local Government Area and abducted a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa. Upon receiving intelligence, police operatives tracked the kidnappers to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari area, where they engaged them in a gun battle.
“Four of the kidnappers were neutralized, and one was arrested with fatal injuries. The kidnapped victim was rescued without harm,” the police spokesperson confirmed.
During the operation, security operatives also recovered N3 million, which had already been paid as ransom to the kidnappers.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Public Safety
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers for their bravery and dedication to ensuring public safety.
“These operations not only reflect our commitment to maintaining law and order but also show our determination to dismantle criminal networks that threaten the safety of citizens,” Egbetokun said.
The police chief urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious activities.
“We will continue these operations with renewed vigor to ensure a safer environment for all Nigerians,” he assured.
The police also emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering and community engagement to combat crime effectively.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property, reinforcing community trust, and fostering a peaceful and secure nation,” Adejobi added.
