The Ogun State Police Command is searching for an unidentified woman after Inspector Haruna Mohammed, a police officer serving with the Ishashi Division of the Lagos State Police Command, was found dead in a hotel room at Anthony Uzum Estate, Oyeyemi Akute, Ogun State.
The police confirmed that the woman had checked into the hotel with Inspector Mohammed in the early hours of Saturday, but she disappeared shortly after his death.
According to reports, Mohammed and the woman entered the hotel at around 1:00 a.m. A few hours later, at 8:52 a.m., the hotel manager found the door to their room unlocked. Upon checking inside, he discovered the lifeless body of the officer under mysterious circumstances.
Further investigation revealed that the woman had visited the hotel reception at around 6:00 a.m. to request a bottle of tap water before vanishing.
The Ogun State Police Command described Mohammed’s death as “unnatural” and has launched a manhunt for the missing woman.
Initially, authorities struggled to identify the deceased because he had no identification card among his belongings.
“At first, only a uniform was found in his bag, so it was not immediately possible to confirm he was a police officer,” said Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command.
“However, further investigation revealed that the deceased was an inspector of police serving with the Ishashi Division in the Lagos Command. The DPO has been contacted, and his body has been identified. We have launched a manhunt for the fleeing woman.”

This case is similar to an incident in January when another police inspector, Lawal Ibrahim, from the Kwali Division in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was found dead in a hotel room after a suspected sexual encounter.
Inspector Ibrahim had checked into Palasa Guest Inn in Gwagwalada with a woman named Maryam Abba, whom he met online. They reportedly had a sexual encounter at night and another in the morning. After the second round, Abba noticed that Ibrahim’s breathing became irregular, and he stopped responding. She attempted to revive him by sprinkling water on him but received no reaction. She then alerted the hotel manager, who called the police.
Abba was later arrested, but the FCT police have not provided further details on the case.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that they are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding Inspector Mohammed’s death.
“We are making every effort to track down the woman who fled the scene,” Odutola stated.
