Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered 14 firearms in a raid on a notorious criminal hideout in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Thursday, was led by the state’s security outfit, Agunechemba, also known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi. The raid was conducted in collaboration with the police, Department of State Services (DSS), military, and local vigilantes.

Security personnel seized a large cache of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, and four locally made pistols. They also recovered three packets of cartridges containing 101 bullets, four empty AK-47 magazines, three cutlasses, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and various charms.

A video of the operation is currently trending on social media, showing security personnel and local residents celebrating the success of the raid.

While the Anambra State Police Command has not officially confirmed the raid, a senior police source described it as a major breakthrough.

The source told journalists, “Anambra must be free again. The governor has done much, and he has given us the mandate to secure the state. That’s what we are doing. Those criminals must bow.”

The recent enforcement of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law has heightened security concerns across the state. Hotel operators and landlords are reportedly on high alert, fearing government action for non-compliance with the law.

In areas like Oba in Idemili South LGA and Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka LGA, some hotels have already been sealed, while others face the threat of closure. Community leaders, including president-generals, have been visiting hotels and relaxation centers to ensure they comply with the new regulations.

The raid in Enugwu-Agidi is seen as part of a larger crackdown on criminal activities in the state. Residents are hopeful that such efforts will continue to restore peace and security in Anambra.
