Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has initiated a thorough investigation into the shocking murder of a 200-level Computer Science student, Paul Thinker. The university’s management has set up a three-member committee to collaborate with police investigators to uncover those responsible for the crime.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 22, 2025, when Paul was reportedly stabbed by unknown individuals. The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that detectives had begun working to identify and apprehend the culprits.
In a statement, Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, revealed that the attack was reported at 10:55 p.m. by Bowen University’s Chief Security Officer, Akindoyo Joseph. “The deceased was a promising student of Computer Science at Bowen University,” Opalola said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

University’s Response
Bowen University’s Public Relations Officer, Havillah Aliyu, expressed the institution’s commitment to ensuring justice for Paul and restoring a sense of safety on campus. In a message shared on Sunday, Aliyu commended the swift response of the police, stating, “Management is satisfied with the prompt response and professionalism displayed by the police, and we are optimistic that the culprit(s) will be apprehended soon.”
To support the investigation, the university held an emergency Senate meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025. During this meeting, a three-member committee was formed to assist in gathering relevant information and cooperating with law enforcement agencies. “The committee has been tasked with gathering as much information as possible and relaying it to the police,” Aliyu explained.
The university has also taken steps to enhance campus security, including increasing the number of security personnel and working closely with police and other security agencies to intensify patrols in and around the institution.
Family Meets with Management
Paul’s family visited the university on Thursday to meet with the management. Reflecting on the somber mood on campus, Aliyu said, “Normalcy is gradually returning to the campus, though the atmosphere remains one of cautious hope as we await swift justice for the perpetrator(s) of this despicable act.”
Police Investigation Underway
The police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Opalola emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving the case, stating, “The public is encouraged to come forward with any information that could assist in this investigation.”
The tragic death of Paul has left a deep mark on the Bowen University community. While the investigation continues, both the university and the police are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that such incidents do not occur again.
