Bello Turji, one of Nigeria’s most notorious terrorist leaders, has reportedly expressed his willingness to surrender, according to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
General Musa revealed this development during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday. He attributed Turji’s readiness to lay down arms to the military’s intensified operations, which have significantly weakened his network.
“We have taken out his second-in-command and most of his lieutenants,” General Musa said. “This has forced him to release many of his hostages, and he is beginning to indicate that he doesn’t want to continue. He is ready to surrender.”
The military’s recent successes in the fight against terrorism have placed immense pressure on Turji, a figure long associated with violent attacks and kidnappings in Nigeria. General Musa highlighted how challenging it has been to track Turji due to his ability to blend into local communities and move quickly.
“They (terrorists) operate within the communities, and the people know them. By the time we get the information and mobilize, they often move to a new location,” he explained.

Despite Turji’s reported willingness to surrender, General Musa emphasized the need for accountability. He stated that those responsible for the loss of innocent lives must face justice, even if they express an intent to give up violence.
“While surrendering is a step in the right direction, it is important that those who have caused harm to innocent citizens are held accountable,” he said.
Bello Turji has been linked to numerous violent acts, including kidnappings, mass killings, and the destruction of communities. His decision to surrender, if confirmed, could mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism.
