The Mpu community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State erupted in celebration on Tuesday following the return of Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from a United Kingdom prison.
Beatrice, who had been sentenced to five years in prison for her involvement in an organ-trafficking case, was released and is now reportedly in Abuja. Her return has brought immense joy to her hometown, where her absence, along with that of her husband, was deeply felt.
The President of Mpu Town Union Federated, Mr. Benjamin Chijioke, described the day as a monumental moment for the entire community. “Our joy as Mpu people knows no bounds. It is a great day for us,” he said. “Since morning, it has been jubilation and celebration in all the villages. People are shedding tears of joy, especially those who relied on the family’s philanthropy to survive.”
Chijioke further expressed hope that Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who remains in UK custody, would also return home soon. “We thank God and pray that He will intervene so that our illustrious son and leader, Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will join his family in good health. Their absence has been a huge setback for the community, but we remain hopeful,” he added.

Councillor of Mpu Ward, Ogbuka Edwin, also shared his delight, likening the day to a public holiday for the community. “The news was a cheerful one. The absence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife created a big gap in the community,” he said. “We are not going to relent in our prayers until our hero and leader joins his family. It is celebration galore.”
Beatrice Ekweremadu’s release has reignited hope among the people of Mpu that the Ekweremadu family, known for their generosity and leadership, will soon be reunited. Many locals are confident that their prayers for Senator Ekweremadu’s safe return will be answered.
