A prominent member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, has called for urgent reconciliation between two influential political figures in Kano State—former governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Kofa, who serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, described the ongoing feud between the two leaders as unfortunate and detrimental to the development of Kano State.
Speaking during a radio interview in Kano on Thursday, Kofa emphasized the need for well-meaning citizens to intervene and bring the two leaders together for the sake of peace and progress. “The lingering dispute between Kwankwaso and Ganduje is not just a personal matter; it affects the entire state,” he said. “We need to prioritize reconciliation because it is critical for Kano’s growth.”
Kofa highlighted the remarkable achievements of both leaders in public service, noting that they have each played significant roles in shaping Kano State and Nigeria at large. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has had an illustrious career, rising from the Kano State Civil Service to becoming Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, a two-term governor, Minister of Defence, a senator, and a presidential aspirant.
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on the other hand, has also had a distinguished career. He served as a civil servant, director in the Federal Capital Territory, commissioner, deputy governor, and two-term governor of Kano State. Currently, Ganduje is the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Not everyone is chosen by God to hold these offices,” Kofa remarked. “They have both been uniquely blessed, and it is our collective responsibility to reconcile them.”
According to Kofa, the strained relationship between Kwankwaso and Ganduje has contributed to many of the political challenges facing Kano State. He expressed disappointment over how the feud has divided their supporters and urged them to prioritize the greater good.
“As Muslims, it is our duty to reconcile them,” Kofa said. “They were once close allies and achieved many successes together. What is happening now is painful and disheartening. This is a time to embrace peace, unity, and progress.”

Kofa also suggested practical steps to mend their relationship, urging both leaders to set an example of reconciliation. He called on them to attend each other’s family events to demonstrate goodwill and mend fences publicly.
“Let us see Kwankwaso attending the wedding of Ganduje’s daughter and Ganduje attending the wedding of Kwankwaso’s son,” he said. “Politics is their choice, but reconciliation is our shared responsibility.”
The lawmaker concluded by praying for those who oppose reconciliation efforts, asking Allah to guide them toward the right path. “We must all work together to bring peace to Kano,” he added.
The ongoing rivalry between Kwankwaso and Ganduje has long been a source of division in Kano State politics. Many observers believe that reconciling the two leaders could lead to greater unity and progress for the state. Kofa’s passionate appeal is likely to resonate with many who hope for a resolution to the feud.
