The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has absolved the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of allegations of reckless spending in its 2024 budget implementation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the committee chairman, Senator Sani Musa, dismissed claims that JAMB misappropriated funds, including N1.1 billion reportedly spent on meals and N850 million on fumigation. He emphasized that the accusations were unfounded based on documents submitted by JAMB during the budget defense session.
“The comprehensive report provided by JAMB indicated that the line items mentioned during Monday’s hearing on revenue did not suggest any mismanagement or misuse of the board’s funds,” Senator Musa stated. He added that the report highlighted “the responsible and prudent use of resources under the leadership of the registrar.”
During the budget defense session, the committee initially raised concerns about the expenditures, prompting JAMB’s registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to offer an explanation. However, the committee requested detailed documentation of JAMB’s budgetary appropriations and spending for 2024 and 2025 before making a final judgment.

After reviewing the submitted documents, the committee concluded that JAMB had demonstrated transparency and fiscal discipline in managing its resources. Senator Musa praised Professor Oloyede for his leadership, describing his approach as exemplary. “The registrar deserves commendation for demonstrating financial discipline and accountability in managing the board’s resources effectively,” he said.
The committee also noted that JAMB’s prudent resource management should serve as a model for public institutions across the country. “This level of stewardship serves as a model for public institutions across the nation,” Musa concluded.
The exoneration of JAMB comes as a relief to the examination body, which had faced criticism over the alleged expenditures. With the National Assembly’s commendation, JAMB’s leadership is now being celebrated for its commitment to financial accountability and effective management of public funds.
