The Nigeria Police Force has launched a manhunt for suspected Boko Haram terrorists following a deadly bomb attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State. The attack, which occurred early Thursday morning, claimed the lives of two brave officers, Bartholomew Kalawa and Mustapha Huzaifat, leaving their families and the police force grieving.
“The terrorist threw hand grenades, which unfortunately landed on a shelter tent behind the division and fatally wounded two officers,” explained Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command.
Police Respond to the Attack
In a swift reaction, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun condemned the attack and ordered an immediate clampdown on those responsible. “The assistant inspector-general of police in charge of Zone 15 has been directed to mobilize all necessary resources to track down the perpetrators,” said Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, in a statement on Friday.
The inspector-general assured the public that the police are working closely with other security agencies to bring the attackers to justice. He promised that anyone who disrupts Nigeria’s security and safety would face the full wrath of the law.

A Heroic Stand Against Terrorism
According to a police statement, the incident began at around 12:10 a.m. on January 9, 2025, when unknown gunmen believed to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade the police division. Officers on duty courageously engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat. Unfortunately, during the exchange, the terrorists threw grenades that hit a shelter tent, causing the fatal injuries.
“The gallant officers on watch repelled the terrorists after a series of exchanges in a gun battle,” Daso recounted.
Inspector General Egbetokun expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen officers, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty would not be in vain. He also assured their families that all benefits and entitlements owed to the deceased would be promptly disbursed. “Their sacrifice will not be forgotten,” Adejobi emphasized.
Community Appeal
The attack underscores the continued threat posed by Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeastern region. The police have called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate by providing any information that could lead to the capture of the terrorists.
While the investigation continues, the people of Nganzai and the nation mourn the loss of two officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery stands as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made daily by law enforcement in the fight against terrorism.
“Justice will be served, and we will ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act face the consequences of their actions,” Adejobi stated, echoing the determination of the Nigerian Police Force.
