Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, widely praised for his integrity after rejecting a $200,000 bribe in 2022, has converted to Islam in a private ceremony held in Kano. The event took place at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, where Amah formally embraced the Islamic faith and adopted the name Muhammad.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, was marked by prayers and blessings from the Emir, who encouraged Amah to deepen his understanding of Islam. Emir Sanusi II advised Amah to uphold the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, charitable giving (Zakat), and pilgrimage to Mecca.
Speaking in Hausa, the Emir prayed for Allah’s guidance for Amah and commended his decision to convert. He urged Amah to remain an example of good character and to continue respecting and supporting his parents, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Amah first rose to national prominence in April 2022 when, as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nasarawa Police Division in Kano, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects. The suspects, led by Ali Zaki, had stolen over N300 million from a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator. The stolen funds included $750,000 in cash, and the suspects attempted to bribe Amah to cover up the crime.

Amah’s decision to reject the bribe earned him widespread admiration. In November 2022, the Police Service Commission (PSC) promoted him from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). He was also honored with the prestigious 2022 Public Service Integrity Award, presented by then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
Amah’s conversion to Islam has drawn reactions from various quarters. Speaking at the ceremony, Emir Sanusi II commended Amah’s unwavering integrity and encouraged him to let his newfound faith further guide his life. “You have shown exemplary character,” the Emir said. “May Allah grant you wisdom and strength as you embark on this spiritual journey.”
The Emir also highlighted the importance of religious tolerance and mutual respect. He urged Amah to continue being a role model in his personal and professional life.
Although Amah has not publicly commented on the reasons for his conversion, his decision is being celebrated as a deeply personal and spiritual milestone. Observers note that his choice reflects the values of humility and integrity that have defined his career.
As ACP Muhammad Amah begins this new chapter of his life, he remains an inspiration to many Nigerians for his courage, integrity, and commitment to justice. His story continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of ethical leadership in public service.
