Nigerians are applauding the quality of refined petroleum products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which are now sold at MRS Oil Plc filling stations nationwide. Many motorists have noted that the fuel, which has an impressive burn rate, lasts significantly longer than imported products sold by other firms, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Motorists shared their experiences on social media, describing the remarkable difference in fuel efficiency after switching to Dangote-refined petrol. Many expressed satisfaction, claiming they were finally getting value for their money.
Improved Efficiency Delights Drivers
A user on X (formerly Twitter), @UncleDips, sparked the conversation by sharing his experience with the fuel. “The last fuel I bought from MRS has done almost 100km already, and the tank is still three-quarters full. For a Ford that is normally a guzzler, this is a big deal. I’m happy and sad at the same time!”
Another user, @Oluwakemistrie, also praised the efficiency, saying, “Bought 26 litres at MRS, and it has served more than the 42 litres we bought from NNPC. MRS way moving forward. Thank you, Twitter.”
Hassan Musa Abbah (@sinotwist) added, “It’s true. I have noticed a sharp decline in my car’s fuel consumption when I buy from there and a sharp increase when I buy from NNPC. They have been cheating us for a long time.”
Motorists further criticized the NNPCL for allegedly importing substandard fuel, with many promising to stop patronizing the national oil company. C J Mordi (@jeromemordi) tweeted, “I’ve decided, going forward, to buy fuel from only stations that stock Dangote fuel. So far, I buy from MRS, and there’s a clear difference in price, quality, and pump accuracy. I will no longer patronize fuel importers. #BuyNigerian.”

Fuel Pricing Sparks Competition
The Dangote Refinery recently partnered with MRS Petrol to sell its fuel at ₦935 per litre, sparking a pricing war in the downstream sector. This move forced the NNPCL to reduce its petrol price to ₦899 per litre.
An oil and gas expert, Kelvin Emmanuel, weighed in on the discussion, saying, “Nigerians are now realizing that my crusade since last year on quality specifications is not for nothing.”
The improved quality of Dangote’s fuel has been a game-changer for many drivers. Williams Amobi wrote, “Dangote actually has the best fuel in the country. Not that stuff NNPC is selling. This one is better refined, is good for your engine, and lasts longer than the golden brown-urine coloured stuff they sell to us.”
A Shift in Consumer Preferences
The buzz around Dangote fuel has sparked a shift in consumer preferences, with many pledging to stick with MRS filling stations and other outlets stocking Dangote-refined petrol. Taofeek T. Gawat (@tfk_gawat) summed up the sentiment by retweeting, “MRS is priority. NNPC is an alternative.”
Another user, @Rilwannajib, added, “I’ll try this Dangote fuel everyone is giving a good review about, and once it’s true, NNPC & anyone it supplies won’t see a kobo of my money again.”
As more Nigerians share their positive experiences, the competition in the downstream sector continues to intensify. This development underscores the importance of quality in petroleum products and signals a potential shift in the Nigerian fuel market.
