The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, predicting a major defeat in the 2027 general elections if his administration continues with its current economic policies.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Dungurawa criticized what he described as “anti-masses policies” introduced by Tinubu’s government, which he claimed have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians. He expressed confidence that the NNPP would emerge victorious in all 36 states, including the presidential election.
“With your unfriendly anti-masses policies and your stance, just prepare for defeat in the next general election. You either change them, or Nigerians will collectively change you,” Dungurawa stated.
Criticism of Tinubu’s Policies
Dungurawa accused the Tinubu-led Federal Government of deliberately implementing measures that have deepened economic hardship since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
“From the podium on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu started reeling out anti-masses policies as if Nigerians had stepped on his toes. He kept slamming unfriendly policies on us, even up till today,” he said.
According to the NNPP chairman, the hardships faced by Nigerians under Tinubu’s administration have solidified support for his party and its presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso. He emphasized that the NNPP would ensure Tinubu’s removal from office in 2027, declaring, “Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, a true democrat, will step in.”
NNPP’s Growing Strength
Dungurawa highlighted the NNPP’s readiness for the next elections, noting that the party has established offices and structures in all states and local government areas across the country. He described this development as a strong indication of the NNPP’s growing influence and its potential to secure federal and state seats in 2027.
“You are all living witnesses that we are lucky to have a God-fearing governor who has restructured Kano State in terms of infrastructure, empowerment, and human development,” he said, praising the achievements of the NNPP-led government in Kano State.

He added, “Kano can now compete favorably with any modern city globally, especially with the state-of-the-art facilities made available in the metropolitan and rural areas.”
Dungurawa also accused the Federal Government of attempting to impose a one-party system on the country, describing it as a significant challenge to democracy. He urged the government to adopt policies that prioritize the well-being of Nigerians instead of causing further suffering.
He said, “The Federal Government must intensify efforts to introduce human-friendly policies that would alleviate the sufferings of the masses.”
Dismissal of Kwankwaso Defection Rumors
Dungurawa dismissed rumors that the NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was planning to return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the speculation as baseless and an attempt to tarnish Kwankwaso’s reputation and growing popularity.
“The rumour is false and malicious. Kwankwaso remains committed to the NNPP and its vision for a better Nigeria,” he said.
A Warning to Tinubu
Dungurawa concluded by reiterating his warning to President Tinubu, emphasizing that the NNPP was ready to take over in 2027. He said the party’s achievements and grassroots support would pave the way for success in the next general elections.
“If Tinubu’s government continues on this path, Nigerians will make their voices heard in 2027,” Dungurawa declared.
