The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is mourning the tragic death of his younger sister, Atsi Kefas. Atsi passed away in Abuja after succumbing to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound days earlier during an attack on her vehicle along the Wukari-Kente road in Taraba State.
According to family sources, the tragic incident occurred when gunmen ambushed Atsi’s vehicle in the Wukari Local Government Area. In the chaos that ensued, a police escort accompanying her reportedly discharged his firearm accidentally, striking her in the stomach. She was rushed to Abuja for medical attention but succumbed to her injuries.
“It’s sad that we lost her last night. We are devastated by this sad event,” a close family source told reporters.
Atsi Kefas was known for her humility, kindness, and compassion. Tributes have been pouring in from friends, family, and well-wishers on social media, highlighting the impact she had on those around her.
Kelvin Kuffi, a longtime friend, expressed his grief in a WhatsApp group dedicated to Governor Kefas, writing, “Atsi Kefas has been a close friend for over two decades. Our friendship blossomed during our diploma days at Taraba State Polytechnic, Wukari. She was humble, sacrificial, and a joy to be around.”
Murtala Atumba also shared his condolences, saying, “It’s sad indeed. My sincere condolences to His Excellency, the Governor, the First Family, and all mourners. May the Lord comfort everyone during this trying moment.”
Joseph Agbu and Sintali, among others, posted heartfelt messages, praying for strength and comfort for the grieving family. “May the Lord comfort H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas and the entire family over this irreparable loss,” Agbu wrote.
The news of Atsi Kefas’s death has sent shockwaves across Taraba State. Many residents have expressed their sorrow, describing her as a compassionate and gentle soul whose loss is deeply felt. When contacted, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, declined to comment on the matter. “I think family sources are in the best position to talk about the passing of the governor’s sister,” he said.
