The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State. The decision came after the party accused him of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
The expulsion, effective immediately, was announced in a statement by the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiak. According to the statement, the decision was communicated in a letter dated December 5, 2024, and signed by the Ideato Local Government Area (LGA) PDP Chairman, ThankGod Okeke, and Secretary, Onyebuchi Umeh.
Disciplinary Actions and Findings
The PDP disciplinary process leading to Ugochinyere’s expulsion began with his suspension at the ward level on October 14, 2024. He had been summoned to appear before the ward executive committee on October 5, 2024, to address allegations of misconduct but failed to comply. Further reminders sent on October 7, 2024, were also ignored.
Following his suspension, a disciplinary committee was set up, and its report, dated November 27, 2024, highlighted Ugochinyere’s violations of the PDP constitution. The Ideato LGA executive committee reviewed and unanimously adopted the report during a meeting held on December 5, 2024.
The party accused Ugochinyere of:
1. Failing to attend meetings and participate in party activities, violating Section 58(1)(e) of the PDP constitution.
2. Engaging in unauthorized publicity of internal disputes, breaching Section 58(1)(i).
3. Establishing parallel party executives and organs at the ward, LGA, and national levels, contravening party rules.
4. Making derogatory and provocative statements against the PDP and its national leaders, which brought the party into disrepute.
