The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has begun a formal investigation into allegations of sodomy against two of its youth pastors, following reports that surfaced online. Pastor Sunday Akande, the National Overseer of RCCG, confirmed the investigation in an interview, stating that the church is committed to addressing the matter thoroughly.
Akande explained that the church has set up a panel to look into the accusations and determine appropriate actions.
“This is the first time an allegation like this has been raised against the church. If we see anything like this, the church will investigate it and see how we can address it. As far as the church is concerned, we don’t condone this kind of thing,” Akande said.
The allegations were initially brought to light by the controversial news blog Gistlovers, which claimed that the pastors had lured teenage boys into inappropriate relationships.
Gistlovers alleged that the pastors were “influencing many into being gay” and creating a toxic environment for young boys under their mentorship.
A post by the blog shared anonymous statements, including from a 20-year-old who claimed to have witnessed these actions.
One of the accused pastors has denied the allegations, stating, “I have never demanded sex from any male as payment or gratification in order to give them assistance, platforms, or positions.”
He clarified that any conversations or messages had been part of a broader youth mentorship program focusing on male reproductive health and self-esteem.
“In a male teenagers’ WhatsApp group, discussions were held about hygiene, proper underwear choices, and self-esteem, encouraging the boys to understand they are ‘perfectly and uniquely created by God.’”

Despite the pastors’ denials, RCCG took the step of suspending the two individuals involved. A letter dated October 28 confirmed their suspension, which, according to the church, aligns with its commitment to uphold biblical teachings. Pastor Akande further explained that the suspension allows space for any potential victims to come forward.
“To the best of my knowledge, nobody has come forward yet as a victim of harassment,” he stated, adding that the church welcomes any testimonies that could provide clarity.
In response to the claims, the family of one pastor has filed a formal complaint with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos. The family’s petition, submitted through their lawyer, Adekunle Adeyinka, accuses Gistlovers of defamation and demands an investigation into the blog’s activities. They argue that the blog’s unfounded accusations have caused emotional distress and increased security risks for their son.
As RCCG continues its investigation, the church has emphasized its commitment to integrity and transparency. Pastor Akande reassured members and the public that RCCG will take all necessary measures to ensure the truth is uncovered and justice is served.
“The church will not overlook any action that goes against its principles,” he said, noting that the outcome of the investigation will be handled in line with church policies and the law.
