Legendary Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti and award-winning artist 9ice will captivate the audience as stars from across Africa come together tonight for the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Held at the Balmoral Convention Centre of the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, this year’s ceremony promises an evening of thrilling performances and inspiring celebrations of African film.
The Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Tony Anih, shared the excitement building around the event, revealing that in addition to Kuti and 9ice, music icons like Yinka Davies and Ghanaian singer Adeena will take the stage, along with talented guitarist Naird from Ghana. “These music stars are sure to wow the audience,” Anih said, hinting at an unforgettable experience for attendees.
The festivities began on Friday with the launch of AMAA’s second coffee table book at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja. The celebrations continued with the AMAA Africa Night of Legends, held at Amore Garden in Lekki Phase I, Lagos, honoring key figures in African cinema.
Kingsley James, AMAA’s technical director, shared insights on what to expect at tonight’s awards. “We have an impeccable and African lineup that would wow all attendees,” James said, emphasizing the hard work put into making the night both unique and memorable. “This year’s edition will be just as special as previous years, if not more so.”
Nigeria’s beloved actor Segun Arinze and Ghanaian star Joselyn Dumas will host the awards. With their dynamic on-stage chemistry, James anticipates they’ll bring extra flair to the show. “Segun Arinze and Joselyn Dumas are set to spice up the night. Joselyn, known for her charm and talent, will complement Arinze’s charismatic presence,” he said.
