Two young men, both 20 years old, have confessed to killing a woman in a bush in Oliogo community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, in an attempt to steal her motorcycle. The suspects, identified as Ekene and Stanley, were presented at the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba, where Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Bright Edafe shared details of the incident.
Ekene, one of the suspects, explained that they encountered the woman while she was on her farm. “When we saw her, she was eating. My friend took off his shirt and tried to strangle her with it,” Ekene said. The woman, recognizing one of them, reportedly called out “Aboy,” which made the pair panic.
“When she called him by name, my friend got nervous and took a cutlass, striking her on the head,” Ekene recounted, noting that blood began to flow after the attack. He explained that while his friend was attacking the woman, he searched for the key to her motorcycle, but when they couldn’t find it, they fled the scene.

Afterward, Ekene returned home and, feeling remorseful, confided in his mother about what had happened. “I told my mother, and she advised me to go to the vigilante,” he said. Following his mother’s advice, he and his friend went to the local vigilante group, who handed them over to the police.
When asked why he didn’t prevent his friend from using the cutlass, Ekene said, “I asked him what he would do if she died, and he told me that if he didn’t kill her, she would report us. I really felt bad when I saw tears flowing from her eyes.”
Stanley, the second suspect, claimed they didn’t intend to kill the woman. “We only wanted to steal her motorcycle,” he admitted.
Police spokesperson Mr. Edafe confirmed that the suspects would face charges for both murder and robbery.
