The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted four police officers currently serving as lecturers at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, who recently completed PhD programs. This promotion, announced in an extraordinary management meeting, is part of the PSC’s efforts to recognize and reward educational advancement and professional contributions within the Nigerian police force.

The promoted officers include CSP Favour Fadawag, who has now been elevated to Assistant Commissioner of Police. Three others – Inspector Shide Sunday, Inspector Oparaji Benjamin Chetachi Ukwu, and Inspector Benjamin Wanger – were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police.

Speaking about the promotion, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani clarified that these advancements are “for now until they are confirmed for further proper placement.”

DIG Hashimu Argungu (Retd), the chairman of the PSC, highlighted the Commission’s dedication to encouraging police officers who pursue further studies and professional qualifications.

“Other officers with additional professional certificates, like lawyers, will soon be upgraded following public service requirements,” Argungu stated, signaling a broader effort to recognize and reward specialized skills within the force.

Argungu also emphasized the PSC’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in its operations.

“We will prioritize merit and personal development to inspire greater dedication and commitment among our officers,” he said, reaffirming that the Commission intends to support officers’ welfare through accurate placement and career development opportunities.

Additionally, Argungu announced that all officers teaching at the Police Academy with advanced degrees would be eligible for similar promotions, acknowledging the importance of education and professional growth.

The chairman also underscored the PSC’s firm stance on anti-corruption efforts, noting, “The Commission is committed to fighting corruption across the force, including in the commands, departments, Police Colleges, and the Academy.”
