The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed a thorough investigation into a recent altercation between officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Osogbo, Osun State. This directive comes after a video showing a public confrontation between the two security agencies went viral, drawing widespread attention and concern.
The clash reportedly occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday at Elizabeth Estate in Osogbo, where tensions between the personnel of both agencies escalated into physical altercations. Following the incident, the Osun State Police Command detained several NSCDC personnel involved in the conflict, leading to heightened concerns over the cooperation between the two security bodies.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the behavior of the officers, the IGP condemned the public display of unprofessional conduct. He stressed that such incidents undermine the unity and collaboration that should exist between security agencies.
“I am displeased with the act of unprofessionalism and the public display of dichotomy between the officers,” Egbetokun remarked in his statement.

To address the situation, the IGP ordered the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, which includes Osogbo, to conduct a discreet investigation. The aim is to uncover the root cause of the dispute and take appropriate actions to prevent such occurrences in the future. The investigation will look into the events leading up to the altercation, as well as the conduct of the officers involved.
The directive was communicated through a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday. In the statement, Adejobi emphasized that the IGP is committed to fostering a cooperative relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies. He also called for calm among the public, assuring that the investigation would be carried out fairly and thoroughly.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the IGP, will continue to work in collaboration with relevant sister security agencies towards ensuring we achieve a safe and secure environment for our dear country, Nigeria,” Adejobi noted.
The incident in Osogbo has sparked conversations about the need for improved inter-agency coordination and professionalism among Nigeria’s security personnel. As the investigation unfolds, many hope that the findings will strengthen the relationship between the police and the NSCDC, ensuring that similar clashes do not occur in the future.
