Newly appointed Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, has called on all stakeholders in Nigerian sports to unite and support a new vision aimed at transforming the country’s sports sector. Dikko emphasized that achieving this ambitious plan requires collaboration among all parties involved.
Dikko made these remarks after a closed-door meeting held on Friday in Abuja with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the immediate past Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh. The discussions were part of early efforts to lay a foundation for the revitalization of sports in Nigeria.
“The meeting is part of early groundwork to establish a robust framework aimed at transforming Nigeria’s sports landscape into a sustainable sports economy,” Dikko stated. He stressed that the initiative would focus on aligning Nigeria’s sports sector with international best practices.
Dikko highlighted the importance of building a united front among stakeholders, including athletes, sports officials, and private sector partners, to ensure the success of the NSC’s vision. He believes that collective efforts are key to realizing the Commission’s goals and moving Nigerian sports forward.
“This new direction is expected to boost professionalism, create economic opportunities, and enhance sports infrastructure and development across the country,” Dikko explained. He added, “The united front of all stakeholders is essential in achieving the ambitious goals of the NSC and taking Nigerian sports to unprecedented heights.”

Dikko’s appointment as NSC Chairman came after President Bola Tinubu’s decision to dissolve the Ministry of Sports Development, transferring its functions to the Commission. The reorganization aims to create a vibrant sports economy in Nigeria by fostering better management and development in the sector.
The new NSC Chairman is expected to focus on building a more sustainable and professional sports framework in Nigeria. His plans include improving sports facilities, creating economic opportunities through sports, and ensuring that Nigerian athletes can compete successfully on the international stage.
Dikko’s call for support has already begun to resonate with some stakeholders who believe that the move to transfer sports management to the NSC could lead to better coordination and growth. The next steps in this transformation will be closely watched as the Commission embarks on this ambitious journey to reshape Nigeria’s sports sector.
