The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed recent claims about inadequate funding and allegations of corruption within its divisions, describing the reports as false and misleading. In a statement released on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi clarified that divisional police officers (DPOs) receive regular financial support through federal allocations, along with additional backing from their respective state governments.
Adejobi directly refuted allegations that DPOs lack budgetary allocations, which has led to their reliance on unofficial sources of funding, such as bail payments. “Contrary to the published report that Divisional Headquarters receive no budgetary allocation and that officers rely solely on unofficial sources of funds for operations, including bail payments, the Police Authority maintains that Divisional Police Officers receive statutory funding based on established allocations from the Federal allocation coupled with support from their respective State Governments,” he explained.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the claims made in the publication were inaccurate and intended to damage the reputation of the police. “Any contrary assertion as contained in the publication is not only false but a calculated attempt to run down the system and discredit the police authority,” Adejobi stated.

However, Adejobi acknowledged that the Nigeria Police Force has faced challenges with funding in the past. He noted that the financial situation has seen improvements recently, suggesting that efforts have been made to better support police operations across the country.
In response to the allegations, the Inspector General of Police has initiated an investigation to uncover the sources of what the police consider deliberate misinformation. “Subsequent upon the highly misleading and scandalous publication, the Inspector General of Police has ordered an immediate investigation to identify those responsible for this deliberate misinformation,” Adejobi announced.
