The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 32-year-old man named Dahiru Musa in the Dorayi quarters of Kano metropolis. The suspects are accused of poisoning Musa and then stabbing him to death.
In a statement released on Wednesday, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the events leading to the arrests. The investigation began when Musa’s brother reported him missing, expressing suspicion that one of Musa’s close associates might be involved. Haruna stated, “On September 29, 2024, at about 7:30 PM, we received a report from a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, that his brother, Dahiru Musa, 32, was missing. He strongly suspected one of his close associates, Aliyu Adamu, 22, from Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, who happened to be the last person in contact with him before his disappearance.”
Following the report, a team of detectives acted quickly and arrested Aliyu Adamu on September 30, 2024. During questioning, Adamu confessed to conspiring with his friend, Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20, also from Mandawari Quarters in Kano. Adamu admitted that they had lured Musa to his house under the false pretense of negotiating a land business deal.

According to Haruna, Adamu offered Musa food laced with poison. After realizing Musa was unconscious, they used knives to stab him to death. “They later packed the remains in a sack and disposed of it in an uncompleted building near Adamu’s house,” Haruna explained.
Adamu also revealed that his motive for the murder was to seize Musa’s land, as he had possession of the land documents. As the investigation progressed, police arrested Abdulsalam, who confessed that upon hearing of Adamu’s arrest, he collaborated with a third suspect, Sadiq Sunusi, 19, also from Mandawari Quarters. They allegedly burned Musa’s body with petrol to destroy evidence. The remains have since been taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano for an autopsy.
All three suspects are currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, where they are undergoing further investigation. Police Commissioner CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the public for providing information that led to the arrests. He also urged residents to be cautious and to ensure they are accompanied by trustworthy individuals when meeting people for business or personal engagements, especially in isolated locations.
