The Commander of the 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, has been detained by military police in Abuja following serious allegations of corruption, including the diversion of rice palliatives meant for soldiers and the illegal sale of military equipment.
According to sources who spoke to Daily Nigerian on condition of anonymity, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters had distributed rice palliatives to brigades across the country to support soldiers. The rice was distributed on at least three separate occasions according to the nominal roll, but Brigadier General Sadiq reportedly provided soldiers with only a single 5kg bag each and allegedly sold off the remaining batches.
A source familiar with the matter explained, “The rice was meant to be shared among soldiers as a relief measure, but the general sold most of it after giving only one round of distribution to the soldiers.”
The scandal does not end with the rice palliatives. Brigadier General Sadiq is also accused of selling military equipment, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano. The equipment was reportedly sold to scrap dealers, further deepening the allegations of misconduct against him.
Military authorities have responded swiftly to the accusations. Brigadier General Sadiq has been locked in a military police guardroom in Abuja, where he is under interrogation by the Special Investigation Branch of the military police.
A source close to the investigation confirmed that “he was first invited to Abuja for questioning and was immediately detained in the military guardroom. There are numerous allegations against him that are being investigated.”

As the investigation continues, Brigadier General Sadiq has been replaced as the Commander of the 3 Brigade Kano by Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, a former Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
“Full-scale investigations into the matter are ongoing. He will likely face charges in a court-martial,” the source added.
At the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army’s spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, had not responded to calls or text messages seeking comments on the situation.
