Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has been honored with the prestigious Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Golden Award for his significant contributions to reforming the education sector in Kano. The award was presented during the World Teachers’ Day 2024 celebration, held on Saturday at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The event, organized by the NUT in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, brought together teachers and education leaders from across Nigeria to recognize the critical role educators play in shaping the future. Teachers from all 36 states of the country attended the ceremony, which was designed to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the Nigerian education system.
The NUT National Chairman, Titus Ambe, explained that only six governors were chosen for the Golden Award, based on their dedication to improving education, particularly through support for teachers’ welfare and training. Governor Yusuf was recognized for his administration’s transformative efforts in advancing education in Kano.
“Governor Yusuf allocated 29.9 percent of Kano’s 2024 budget to education and declared a state of emergency in the sector. This led to major improvements in infrastructure and increased access to quality education,” Ambe stated, highlighting the governor’s commitment to uplifting the education landscape.
During the ceremony, Governor Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of the six honored governors, reaffirmed his dedication to further investments in education.
“Sustaining progress is essential to ensure that future generations thrive,” he said, expressing his administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the education sector.
