A tragic domestic incident has occurred in Lagos, where a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death following a heated argument. The shocking event took place on Friday at Amazing Grace Estate in the Elepe area of Ikorodu.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the dispute between the couple escalated, leading to Olaniyi stabbing his 25-year-old wife multiple times. After committing the act, he locked her in the room and set it on fire. The police further revealed that the suspect also inflicted injuries on himself before the authorities arrived.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the details in a statement issued on Saturday. “A distress call was received on October 4 at Ikorodu Division about a newlywed couple, Motunrayo Olaniyi, aged 30, and his wife Olajumoke, aged 25, engaging in a domestic altercation at their residence in Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu,” Hundeyin said. He added, “The husband reportedly stabbed the wife to death, locked her in the room, and set it ablaze, while he inflicted wounds on himself.”
When police officers arrived at the scene, they managed to put out the fire and discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with multiple stab wounds to her abdomen. “The officers found the victim’s body, which showed clear signs of violence, with abdominal wounds,” Hundeyin stated.

Olaniyi was rescued from the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries. After being treated and discharged, he was taken into police custody for further investigation.
Hundeyin confirmed that the body of the deceased has been transferred to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. “The corpse has been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing,” he concluded.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, as neighbors expressed disbelief at the violent turn of events in the couple’s home. The authorities have urged the public to remain calm as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
