The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to prominent landowners and corporate entities in Abuja, threatening to revoke their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) if they fail to settle outstanding payments. The FCTA, in a notice released on Friday, gave landowners in the Maitama district just two weeks to pay their dues or risk losing their property rights.
The notice comes as part of the FCTA’s efforts to support infrastructural development in the Maitama II District, Cadastral Zone A10. A total of 3,273 allottees are affected by this order, including several high-profile individuals such as former President Muhammadu Buhari’s children, prominent politicians, and former government officials.
In the official demand notice titled “Demand Notice for Payment of Right of Occupancy Bills for Issuance of Certificates of Occupancy on All Lands Allocated at Maitama II District, Cadastral Zone, A10, Abuja”, the FCTA made it clear that failure to pay outstanding land bills within the stipulated two weeks would result in the withdrawal of property rights. “All affected allottees are informed that failure to pay all outstanding land bills, rents, fees, and charges within the stipulated grace period will result in the withdrawal of the offers of Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) over the said plots of land by the honourable minister of the FCT, and reallocation of the lands,” the notice read.
Among those affected are influential figures such as Yusuf and Zahra Buhari, the children of former President Muhammadu Buhari; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu; Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation; and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior. Former political leaders, including Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, and Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, are also on the list.

The notice also includes former governors, ministers, lawmakers, and other notable figures in Nigerian politics. Some of the former governors named are Theodore Orji, Rochas Okorocha, Ibikunle Amosun, Gabriel Suswam, Ibrahim Shekarau, and Seriake Dickson. Serving and former senators like Dino Melaye, Stella Oduah, Kabiru Marafa, and Ben Bruce are also among the listed landowners.
Other prominent names on the list include Adamu Abdullahi, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Ameh Ebute, Senate President during Nigeria’s Third Republic.
The FCTA emphasized that the ongoing infrastructural development in the district necessitates the prompt payment of land-related bills, warning that non-compliance could lead to the reallocation of the affected plots to other parties.
