A new report has revealed that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among knowledge workers has increased significantly, rising from 38% in 2023 to 66% in 2024. The second annual HP Work Relationship Index, which tracks the relationship between workers and their work environments, highlighted this rapid surge in AI adoption, showing its growing influence in the workplace.
According to the report, workers who use AI are 11% happier with their jobs compared to those who do not. The study underscores the positive impact that AI is having on job satisfaction, with more workers turning to technology to improve their work experience.
“AI usage among knowledge workers surged to 66% in 2024, up from 38% last year, and workers who use AI are 11 points happier with their relationship with work than their colleagues who don’t,” the report stated.
Despite this increase in AI usage, the report also pointed out that only 28% of workers have a healthy relationship with their jobs, a slight improvement of just 1% from 2023. This suggests that while AI is making some workers happier, many still face challenges in maintaining a balanced relationship with work.
The President and CEO of HP Inc., Enrique Lores, commented on the findings, emphasizing the importance of AI in shaping the future of work. “We know employer and employee expectations have evolved, and we believe smart technology is key to meeting the needs of today’s workforce,” he said.
Lores explained that the future of work will rely heavily on the power of AI to create solutions that benefit both businesses and employees. “The future of work will be unlocked by using the power of AI to create solutions and experiences that drive business growth and enable individuals to achieve personal and professional fulfillment,” he added.
The report also revealed that a large number of workers, at least two-thirds, want more personalized work experiences, including tailored workspaces, access to their preferred technologies, and flexible working environments. Interestingly, 87% of these workers said they would be willing to give up a portion of their salary in exchange for a more customized work experience.
Lores pointed out that personalization is key to improving workers’ relationships with their jobs. “At least two-thirds of workers expressed a desire for personalized work experiences, including tailored workspaces, access to preferred technologies, and flexible working environments. These experiences are crucial for improving relationships with work,” he explained.

Furthermore, 64% of workers said that if their work environment was more tailored to their personal needs and preferences, they would be more committed to their company’s growth.
On a global scale, the HP Work Relationship Index found little overall change in how workers view their relationship with work. However, countries that did show improvement saw slight gains in areas such as leadership and personal fulfillment, which are key factors in building a healthy relationship with work.
The study surveyed 15,600 respondents from various industries across 12 countries. It examined several aspects of workers’ relationships with their jobs, including their skills, tools, workspaces, and expectations of leadership.
HP Inc., the company behind the report, is a global leader in technology and innovation, providing solutions that help individuals and businesses connect and bring their ideas to life. As the company continues to explore the evolving relationship between workers and technology, it is clear that AI will play a central role in shaping the future of the workplace.
