Governor Adeleke Threatens N5 Billion Defamation Suit Against Osun APC Over Election Allegations

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has threatened to file a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. The move comes after the APC accused a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain of plotting a violent attack in the lead-up to the 2026 governorship election.

The allegations were made public in a statement by the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi. According to Olabisi, a viral video circulating online allegedly showed a PDP chieftain discussing plans to bomb the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun State.

In the video, the unnamed chieftain expressed concerns that the PDP might not win the 2026 governorship election and suggested extreme measures to prevent the APC from regaining power.

The chieftain was reportedly heard saying, “There ought to have been a clandestine arrangement where one or two chartered bomb-laced helicopters would have been stationed in the neighbouring Delta State from where they would have successfully bombed the INEC office.” He claimed that such an attack could result in the deaths of 150 to 200 people, including top election officials, thereby preventing the APC from counting or announcing any election results.

Olabisi expressed shock that nearly a week after the video went viral, neither Governor Adeleke nor the PDP had condemned the remarks. He said this silence made the governor and his party “prime suspects” in the alleged plot. Olabisi called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter, urging that those behind the alleged plan be brought to justice.

He also questioned why Governor Adeleke seemed worried about losing the 2026 election, adding that the PDP had won in 2022 without resorting to violence. “If the PDP promoters of violence should be allowed to act according to their threat, it would be on record that a clarion call was earlier made to the security agencies in this regard,” Olabisi stated, warning that preventive action was necessary.
