The Nigerian military has successfully carried out an airstrike that destroyed a terrorist logistics base in Kaduna State, located in the Yadi forest in the Giwa Local Government Area. The base, linked to a notorious terrorist leader, Kadade Gurgu, was targeted by the Nigerian Air Force as part of Operation Whirl Punch. This operation continues the military’s efforts to combat armed terrorist groups in the region.

The airstrike, conducted on Friday, September 27, 2024, was based on reliable intelligence reports. These reports indicated the presence of a large number of terrorists in the area, along with a significant weapons cache. The base belonged to Kadade Gurgu, a close associate of the infamous terrorist leader Dogo Gide, known for orchestrating violent attacks in northern Nigeria.

Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, provided details about the operation in a statement released on Sunday.

“The Nigerian Air Force, under Operation Whirl Punch, destroyed a terrorist logistics base in Yadi Forest, Giwa LGA, Kaduna State,” Ali said.

He explained that intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance efforts revealed a strong presence of terrorists and their motorcycles at the location.

“The logistics base belonged to Kadade Gurgu, who has been providing shelter to notorious terrorist leaders following aggressive military actions in Sokoto and Zamfara States,” Ali added, highlighting Gurgu’s role in supporting the terrorist network.

During the operation, an aircraft was deployed to the target, supported by an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform. As the aircraft neared the base, some terrorists attempted to flee from the site. Despite their efforts to escape, the airstrike successfully hit the target, resulting in the destruction of the logistics facility.

“The logistics facility was engulfed in flames with thick black smoke, and independent sources confirmed that scores of terrorists were killed as a result of the attack,” Ali stated.
