Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze is expected to leave AC Milan in the upcoming January transfer window, as interest from top clubs such as Atletico Madrid, West Ham, and Aston Villa grows. Chukwueze, who joined Milan in the summer of 2023 from Spanish club Villarreal for a €20 million deal, has struggled to find his form at the San Siro and is reportedly seeking a move elsewhere.
Since his transfer, the 25-year-old Nigerian winger has found it difficult to replicate the performances that made him a standout player during his five-year spell at Villarreal, where he became a household name. Despite high expectations, Chukwueze has only managed 39 appearances for AC Milan, scoring three goals and providing three assists since his arrival.
In Serie A this season, Chukwueze has featured in just six matches, totaling 175 minutes from a possible 540. His limited playing time has raised questions about his future at the club, and recent comments from Milan manager Paulo Fonseca suggest that the winger may not have a place in the team moving forward.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Fonseca explained that while Chukwueze has talent, he is currently lacking the confidence needed to perform in Serie A. “He had a very good preseason when he had space against big teams. When we arrived here, against Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwueze was not as good as in the pre-season,” Fonseca said. “It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to gain confidence and play in this context: in Serie A he has no space; he has to make movements at the right time.”

Following these statements, speculation about Chukwueze’s future has intensified. According to reports from Italian media outlet *Les-transferts*, Atletico Madrid is interested in bringing the Nigerian international back to Spain. Chukwueze’s contract with AC Milan runs until June 2028, but he could receive an “exit voucher” as early as the January transfer window, allowing him to move on.
The report further claims that in addition to Atletico Madrid, Premier League sides West Ham and Aston Villa are also monitoring the winger’s situation. Chukwueze is currently valued at €20 million in the transfer market, making him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking to strengthen their attacking options.
Chukwueze’s potential departure from Milan comes after a challenging start to his time in Italy, but a move to a new club could offer him the opportunity to regain his confidence and rediscover his form. With 38 international caps and five goals for Nigeria, Chukwueze remains a talented player with the potential to succeed in a new environment.
