President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to reshuffle his cabinet soon, emphasizing the need for his ministers to be more vocal about their achievements. The President is pushing for greater visibility of his administration’s activities, as many Nigerians remain unaware of the work being done by the government.

Speaking during a press conference at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that a cabinet reshuffle is imminent.

He said, “The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether he wants to do it before October 1st, but he will surely do it. That is what I will say, but he has not given us any timeline.”

Onanuga also addressed concerns about the perception of the administration’s performance, stating that President Tinubu has directed all ministers to communicate more actively with the public. According to him, the President has noticed that many ministers have been hesitant to engage with the media, which has contributed to a lack of public awareness about the government’s initiatives.

“The President has given an order to all his ministers at the last Federal Executive Council meeting to go out there and speak about the activities of his administration. Some of them have been media shy, television shy, radio shy, and he wants them to overcome all that,” Onanuga explained.

He further stressed that the government has been working diligently on various projects, but the general public may not be fully aware.

“The feeling out there is that the government is not doing enough, and the government has been doing a lot. It is up to them to go out there and blow their own trumpet. They should go out there and talk about what their ministries have been doing,” he added.

This push for greater media engagement comes at a time when the administration is facing increased scrutiny from the public, who have expressed concerns over issues such as the economy and governance. The reshuffle is expected to bring new energy to the cabinet, while also enhancing communication efforts to keep Nigerians informed about the government’s actions.
