Tinubu Says He is Committed to Serve Nigeria, Not Wealth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is dedicated to delivering results and improving key sectors such as education and the economy.

The President made this clear during a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani. Tinubu emphasized that his purpose in office is to serve, not for personal gain.

“I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” Tinubu said while addressing the group.

His message was a strong commitment to fulfilling his promises and driving the country towards progress.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by 16 former presiding officers, including former Senate presidents, speakers of the House of Representatives, and their deputies. Despite their diverse party backgrounds, the group expressed their support for Tinubu’s administration.

Tinubu acknowledged the importance of collaboration in nation-building, noting that the support from the forum members was crucial regardless of past political differences.

“Regardless of party differences of the past and difficulty of the present, you still believe in me and what we all plan for this country,” he said, highlighting the need for unity to move the country forward.

The President reflected on Nigeria’s current challenges, especially the hardship many citizens face. He admitted that past mistakes, such as neglecting the oil-producing communities and failing to provide quality education, have contributed to the nation’s problems.

“Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here? What did we do when we had very high crude production?” Tinubu asked.

He continued by emphasizing the need to improve the education sector, noting the poor state of many schools in the country.

“Go round and look at the dilapidated schools. The education environment must be decent enough for pupils to want to learn,” he stressed.

He urged the country to reflect on these issues and take action to encourage school enrolment and improve living standards for all citizens.

Tinubu outlined his administration’s goals, which include improving infrastructure, enforcing financial discipline, exploring alternative energy sources, and ensuring energy security.

“We have come a long way, and I promise we must do our best,” he said, expressing confidence that with collaboration and inclusiveness, Nigeria can overcome its difficulties.

He also called on the former lawmakers to continue sharing their experiences to help guide the nation.

“You are in a unique position to provide clear interpretations of where we are,” he told the group, encouraging them to stay involved in the country’s development efforts.

Senator Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, pledged full support for President Tinubu’s leadership. He acknowledged the enormous challenges the administration faces, including insecurity, economic hardship, and infrastructure decay, but expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to tackle these issues.

“Mr. President, history has never been the burden of one man alone, but some are called to meet a special share of its challenges,” Nnamani said.

He praised Tinubu’s courage, particularly in addressing local government autonomy, a decision that has garnered respect from across political lines.

“We are convinced that you will dig in deeper again to eradicate these problems and restore Nigeria’s pride of place among the comity of nations,” Nnamani concluded.
