The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a four-year-old boy who was abducted in Kano and arrested three suspects involved in the kidnapping. The incident, which occurred in the Sharada Quarters of Kano, led to a swift police operation that resulted in the safe return of the child and the apprehension of those responsible.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests and rescue in a statement released on Monday night. According to Haruna, the police surveillance team made significant progress in the case when they apprehended the suspects on Saturday in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
“On Saturday, September 7, 2024, the Kano State Police Command’s Surveillance Team, led by CSP Kabiru Isah Kangiwa, achieved a significant breakthrough in the case of a kidnapped four-year-old boy, Muhammad Nasir Jamilu,” Haruna stated.
He explained that young Muhammad was abducted from his home in Sharada Quarters and taken to Gwarzo Town, where he was held hostage while his kidnappers demanded a ransom of N10 million.
After negotiations, the boy’s family paid an initial sum of N300,000 as part of the ransom, with the expectation of paying the remaining balance later. However, the Kano State Police Command, under the directive of Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba, acted quickly to rescue the child and track down the kidnappers. With the help of technical support, detectives were able to locate and arrest the suspects.
The arrested individuals were identified as Hisbullahi Salisu, 30, Hassan Ali Rabiu, 28, and Hassan Aliyu, 22. All three are residents of Kano, with Salisu, who is a cousin of the victim, being the principal suspect. Salisu confessed to conspiring with the other two suspects to kidnap his young cousin and take him to their hideout in Gwarzo Town.
Fortunately, the police were able to rescue the boy unharmed.
“The victim was rescued unhurt, rushed to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, and later reunited with his parents,” Haruna added.
The successful operation has been praised by the Kano State Police Command, which commended the surveillance team for their professionalism and quick response. Their efforts ensured the safe return of the boy and the arrest of the criminals responsible.
