The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a woman, in connection with alleged tricycle theft and receiving stolen property. The arrests were announced on Tuesday during a press briefing by Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, speaking on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed.
Wakil revealed that among the arrested suspects was Maryam Ibrahim, also known as Ummi. Ibrahim, aged 30, is accused of receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and selling them in Bauchi State. The other arrested suspects are Adamu Sale, 30; Umar Ibrahim, 31; Nasiru Usman, 29; and Nasiru Musa Umar, 27.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that Ibrahim has sold approximately seven stolen tricycles in Bauchi.
“This successful operation was made possible through credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities and the diligent work of the State Intelligence Department,” Wakil said.
The police recovered seven tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, during the operation. Wakil emphasized that receiving stolen property is a serious crime with severe penalties.
“Engaging in the receiving of stolen property is a serious offence with severe consequences, as outlined in Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria,” he stated. Those convicted of this offence could face imprisonment for up to 14 years.
Wakil also expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “We appreciate the cooperation of the community in providing valuable information that led to the apprehension of the suspects,” he added.
The Bauchi State Police Command continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
