The Kaduna State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has announced the appointment of Nenadi Usman as the new National Caretaker Chairman of the party, following the expiration of Barrister Julius Abure’s tenure. This decision marks a significant change in the party’s leadership and has been endorsed by key figures within the party.
In a statement released on Saturday by Mr. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki and Sani Sahabi, the Chairman and Secretary of the State Labour Party Interim Committee, it was clarified that Abure’s tenure, along with that of his appointees, officially ended on June 9, 2024.
The statement read, “It is important to clarify that the tenure of Barrister Julius Abure and all his appointees ended on June 9, 2024.”
However, the statement clarifies, “The rejection of Nenadi Usman’s appointment appears to stem from a reluctance to accept this reality.”
The party also expressed its gratitude to Auwal Tafoki, the former State Chairman, for his contributions during his tenure. The statement emphasized the need for the party to move forward under new leadership to maintain its relevance and effectiveness.
“It is crucial for the party to move forward,” the statement added.
Nenadi Usman’s appointment was facilitated by Governor Alex Otti and received strong support from notable figures within the party, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, members of the national and state assemblies, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the gubernatorial candidates forum, and other key stakeholders.
The statement further explained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ceased all official dealings with Barrister Abure and his appointees, making it necessary for the party to embrace the new leadership.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ceased all dealings with Barrister Abure and his appointees, making it imperative for the party to adapt and embrace the new leadership,” the statement continued.
Recognizing that change can be difficult, the party’s leadership urged all members and stakeholders to rally behind Usman for the betterment of the Labour Party and its future in Nigeria.
The statement concluded, “Change can be challenging to accept, but it is essential for the Labour Party to remain relevant and functional.”.
The transition in leadership is seen as a critical step to ensuring the party’s continued success and its ability to address the challenges ahead.
