Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has dissolved the 17 Local Government Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen, effective September 6, 2024. This announcement was made in a statement released on Friday night.
The transition committees were originally established on June 9, 2023, with an initial mandate of six months. However, their tenures were extended several times before their eventual dissolution on Friday.
The Governor’s statement, signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, instructed the Directors of Personnel Management in the 17 local government areas to take over the administration of the councils until new elections are conducted. The elections to fill the positions of local government chairmen are scheduled for October 9, 2024.
“Governor Mutfwang commended the Transition Committee Chairmen for their exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing developmental projects that have directly impacted their communities,” the statement read. The Governor expressed pride in the accomplishments of the outgoing chairmen and encouraged them to continue providing valuable advice to promote peace and unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and across Plateau State.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang urged the former chairmen to work closely with their constituents to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming local government elections. He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Plateau State for their steadfast support, noting that the results of the PDP primaries for the upcoming chairmanship and councillorship elections reflect the strong connection between the party and the people.
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to running a government that is inclusive, transparent, and accountable, with the goal of serving the interests of all citizens of Plateau State.
