The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt, arrested two suspected car thieves, and intercepted 15 pieces of unsown military camouflage material. These achievements highlight the ongoing efforts by the police to maintain security and prevent criminal activities in the state.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the first significant operation occurred on August 25, 2024, during a routine patrol along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway. Officers stopped a vehicle for a routine check and discovered a black leather bag containing 15 pieces of unsown military camouflage material. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted that he was on his way to deliver the materials to bandits in Niger State.
“The suspect admitted that he was to deliver the materials to someone in Udawa Village, who would then give them to armed bandits in the Chukuba area under Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, for their operations,” Hassan explained. He added that the suspect is currently cooperating with the police to help identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the scheme.
In a related development, on August 27, 2024, during a routine divisional patrol, the police patrol team in Makarfi encountered a group of armed robbers who had blocked a road using logs of wood and stones. Upon arriving at the scene, the police engaged in a shootout with the robbers. Thanks to the superior firepower of the police, the robbers were forced to flee into the surrounding bushes.
The police were able to neutralize one of the armed robbers during the exchange, recovering a locally-made pistol and one cartridge from the scene. “The police are combing the surrounding bushes in an ongoing operation to apprehend the remaining suspects,” the statement noted, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to capturing all involved.
In another incident, the police responded swiftly to a report from Abdul Aziz Abdul Mumin, who reported that his blue-black Toyota had been stolen. The vehicle was later spotted in the Hayin Dan Mani area of Kaduna. Acting quickly, the police were able to trace the location and set up surveillance to monitor the situation, leading to the arrest of the suspected car thieves.
The state Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, commended the officers for their diligent work and reassured the public that the Kaduna State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that criminals find no refuge within the state. “The command will continue to ensure that criminals have no breathing space within the state,” Dabigi affirmed through the statement.
