Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary footballer currently playing for Al-Nassr, has set his sights on reaching an extraordinary milestone: 1,000 career goals.
In a candid interview with former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo, now 39, opened up about his future in football and the age at which he might retire.
Despite scoring almost 900 career goals, Ronaldo isn’t ready to call it quits just yet. In fact, he is more motivated than ever. During an interview with Ferdinand on YouTube, Ronaldo confidently stated, “Soon I will do 900 [goals], and after I will beat 1,000. I want to reach 1,000 goals.” This ambition reflects the mindset that has driven Ronaldo to become one of all-time greats in football.
Ronaldo recently scored his 899th career goal during Al-Nassr’s 4-1 victory over Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League. With just one more goal to hit the 900 mark, he’s already looking ahead to the next big target: 1,000 goals. “For me, it’s the best mark that I can have in football,” he explained. “With one difference: all the goals that I score, they have videos, so I can prove it.”
When Ferdinand guessed that Ronaldo might reach this goal at age 41, Ronaldo didn’t rule it out. However, he emphasized that his longevity in the sport depends on his health. “We don’t know. If I don’t have injuries, this is for me the most important,” Ronaldo said, indicating that his future in football will largely hinge on his physical condition.
As for international play, Ronaldo remains a key figure for Portugal. Despite a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign where he failed to score, Portugal’s coach Roberto Martinez has continued to include him in the squad. Ronaldo is expected to be part of Portugal’s team for the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland.
Ronaldo’s determination to continue breaking records and leaving a lasting legacy in football is clear. As he edges closer to retirement, he remains focused on achieving his personal goals and continuing to contribute to his team and country.
