Twenty medical students who were kidnapped in Benue State have been rescued, according to security sources. The students, who were abducted last Thursday while traveling along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu federal highway, have now regained their freedom after a coordinated rescue operation.
The rescue effort was led by the Office of the National Security Adviser and involved multiple security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel. The Benue State government also provided crucial support in the operation.
“The rescue mission was a success due to the collaboration between various security agencies,” said a source involved in the operation. The operation began in earnest after an Inspector-General of Police (IG) team arrived in Benue State on Monday and was immediately deployed to Otukpo to search for the kidnapped students.
The students were on their way to Enugu State to attend the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention when they were abducted. Their safe return has brought relief to their families and the wider community.
No further details have been provided about the condition of the students or the circumstances surrounding their rescue. However, the successful operation underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between different security agencies in addressing the growing issue of kidnapping in Nigeria.
