Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has taken decisive action by suspending four top officials of the state government with immediate effect. This development was announced on Tuesday in a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs.
The officials affected by the suspension include the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chrysanthus Dawam, and the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality, Jamila Tukur.
Additionally, Dio Lamul, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, and Moses Sule, the Liaison Officer for Mikang Constituency, were also suspended. The governor did not provide specific reasons for these suspensions.
In a related move, Governor Mutfwang has implemented a minor reshuffle within his cabinet to improve service delivery in the state. Noel Nkup, who previously served as the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, has been reassigned to the position of Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development. Bashir Lawandi Datti, who formerly held the Youth and Sports portfolio, will now serve as the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy.
The suspensions may be linked to the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries for local government elections in Plateau State. The primaries were marked by incidents of violence in some areas and complaints of interference in others.
The governor’s actions have sparked discussions among political observers in the state, with many waiting to see how these changes will impact governance and the upcoming local government elections.
