A man, identified as a member of the Ayé Confraternity and known by the alias “Mosquito,” was brutally killed in a suspected cult clash on Ijagun Road in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The violent incident occurred late Sunday night, around 11:40 p.m., leaving the community in shock and fear.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, Mosquito was hacked to death during the altercation, which reportedly involved other suspected cult members. The attackers went to extreme lengths, severing the victim’s left hand and taking it away.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the details during an interview on Monday. She described the horrific scene discovered by the police.

“The Police Division at Igbeba received a call from residents at 11:40 p.m., reporting that suspected cultists were involved in a fight. After receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised the patrol team. When they arrived at the scene, they found the body of an unidentified man. Upon closer inspection, they discovered he had multiple cuts and gunshot wounds. Further examination revealed that his left hand had been severed and taken away,” Odutola said.

Odutola also revealed that further investigations identified the deceased as Mosquito, a known member of the Ayé Confraternity, a notorious cult group in the region. The killing has heightened fears in the community, as it is part of a growing pattern of violent attacks linked to cult activities in Ogun State.

The death of Mosquito follows another violent incident just days earlier, on Friday night, when suspected cultists killed a 48-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator named Fatai Kehinde. Known as Faithy, Kehinde was the son of the Baale of Kuto Community. He was attacked by assailants who chased him from his shop in Kuto Market to the area under the Kuto Bridge in Abeokuta, where he was brutally murdered.

The rising wave of cult-related violence has prompted the Ogun State Police Command to initiate a crackdown on cult activities and related crimes across the state. The command has pledged to intensify its efforts to restore peace and security in the affected areas and to bring those responsible for these heinous acts to justice.

Residents of the area are now living in fear, with many calling for increased security measures to protect their communities from further violence. The Ogun State Police Command is urging anyone with information about these incidents or the activities of cult groups in the area to come forward and assist in their investigations.
